Little Chefs: Babies Make Pasta Salad at Monkey Puzzle Grange Road
At Monkey Puzzle Grange Road, you’re never too young to get stuck into cooking. Today it was the turn of our babies, who rolled up their sleeves for a colourful pasta salad-making session.
Slicing, Mixing and Exploring Fresh Vegetables
The babies made their salad using peppers, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, spinach and lettuce. Some of the vegetables were sliced beforehand, and the babies were also encouraged to have a go themselves, using baby-safe knives to practise slicing with support from our practitioners.
Why Cooking Is Great for Babies
Cooking gives even the youngest children a rich, hands-on learning experience. Holding a baby-safe knife and practising slicing helps build the hand strength and control that fine motor skills depend on, while handling fresh vegetables introduces a whole range of colours, shapes and textures. Getting involved in preparing food in a relaxed, supported way is also a lovely early step towards a positive relationship with healthy eating. For your child, it means growing confidence, curiosity and independence, all from a simple bowl of salad. It’s just one of the ways our Cambridge nursery and childcare team makes early years learning meaningful from the very start.
